Why this topic?
I am an European born mother and wife living in Arabic speaking countries since many years. While surfing the Net back in 1999 I came across a very ugly website created by two males, one of them a westerner, trying to prove by the Qur’an and Hadith’s (sayings of the Prophet, p.b.u.h. and other people from the early years of Islam) and by scholars of their own kind that: “Women are not regarded as having equal worth as people” and about Gods creation - “his saying ‘created for you’ is a proof that women were created like animals and plants and other useful things ..” ( their words! ), .. “husbands rights are divine.. “. They are claiming it to be the view of “Pure Islam”.
What happened to the verse from the Holy Qur’an (30:21): ”He (God) has set between you love and mercy“?
And to the Hadith by the Prophet from his farewell speech ( which makes it a final verdict ): ”Do treat your women well and be kind to them, for they are your partners and committed helpers.“?
Even the beautiful saying by the Prophet ”Paradise lies under the feet of mothers” they distort to “It is a fact that some mothers deserve the lowest place in hell. It is logical that Paradise is not under the feet of every mother …” What the Prophet meant was, that one should love and respect mothers.
I guarantee, after that lecture no sane woman would ever consider to learn more. In the minds of their readers the image of Islam will be distorted for a very long time, probably their intention all along. I should not quote them more, You will be scared away and my “mission” would be cut short… After a second look at their article I realized, that it is written by opponents of Islam, although they don’t give that impression. You tend to think they know what they are talking about and that they are just women-haters. Later, after checking out their E-mail address (@integrity.org) I found out I was right (because they are looking for Christian organizations for distributing their text). They should know that in any religion we are responsible for our INTENTIONS.
Especially in Islam, believers are rewarded or punished for their intentions.
Why this title for the page?
So, that you can find me in this modern-world wilderness and to beat these two gentlemen by their own means - I’ll be found in the same category. I realize I am starting quite a job by trying to explain Islam to Non-Muslims, may God help me find the right words.
“O mankind ! We created you from a single soul, male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may come to know one another. Truly, the most honored of you in God’s sight is the greatest of you in piety. God is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (Qur’an 49:13)
“And thus have we willed you to be a community of the middle way, so that, with your lives, you might bear witness to the truth before all mankind, and that the Apostle might bear witness to it before you.” (Qur’an 2:143)
“… and their Lord answered them: Truly I will never cause to be lost the work of any of you, Be you male or female, you are members one of another” (Qur’an 3:195)
“God will admit those who believe and work righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow ..” (Qur’an 22:23)
“The true servants of The Merciful are they who walk gently on Earth, and who, when the foolish address them, reply with (words of) peace.” (Quran 25:63)
A Hadith (Bukhari): narrated Abu Huraira: “The Prophet said: ‘Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but to try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by offering the prayers in the mornings, afternoons and during the last hours of the nights.”
Oh ye who believe!
Stand out firmly
For justice, as witnesses
To God, even if it may be against
Yourselves, or your parents
Or your kin.
Quran 4:135
